It's simple: Slack is addictive. And that is exactly what you need from an internal communication tool (well, apart from the communication bit... but Slack rocks this too).

The most difficult part of implementing new tools in a team is always getting the team to adopt it, use it, and commit to it until it sticks (or until you've figured out it's really not for you).

What makes it addictive for our team? It has the simplicity of Facebook group (or personal) chat, but with a powerful search so that you never loose important chats or brainstorms that you may need to look at later again. It's minimalistic design and the 'Slackbot' that talks to you and leads you through the setup are also part of the addiction-factor.

NOTE: regardless of which tool you want to implement, make sure you do commit to it for a week or two before judging. It takes time to change habits. As for Slack, our team has reduced e-mails by 70-80% and we've stopped communicating on 5 different platforms. Blessing.
