The majority of modern social media posts only showcase accomplishments, happy moments, and other positive thoughts and feelings. As people carefully craft their ideal image online, life seems to be perfect on social media. However, the reality is far from perfect. 1 in 3 people will suffer from anxiety, and 1 in 5 people will suffer from depression. The US suicide rate has surged to a 30 year high, and suicide is the #2 killer of teenagers. When everything around seems to be perfect, it is incredibly discouraging for people who wish to share the parts of their lives that are less than perfect. That, in addition to fear of judgment due to stigma, results in those in need of communication, compassion, and support becoming unable to find people they can genuinely relate to and connect with.
